EDGE Grant AI Projects: Singapore Checklist

Quick answer

An EDGE grant AI project in Singapore is a business improvement proposal whose eligibility depends on the current supported activity and applicant rules. Define the workflow, separate software from implementation, confirm the applicable vendor conditions and check when work may start. A grant decision does not validate a system’s accuracy or commercial value.

Editorial diagram of published EDGE ceilings: automation and digitalisation at 50 and 30 percent, and internationalisation and sustainability at 70 and 50 percent.

Suggested preparation: record the workflow over 2 weeks and list the work a reviewer must correct. For automation and digitalisation, the EDGE FAQ states up to 50% support for SMEs and up to 30% for non-SMEs. Up to 70% for SMEs and 50% for non-SMEs applies to internationalisation and sustainability. The annual aggregate cap refreshes on 1 April. Reimbursement follows completion and full payment, subject to the supported activity and approval. See the official source below.

Enterprise Singapore says EDGE launched on 30 September 2026. Applications for EDG, MRA and PSG submitted before that date continue under their original scheme rules; no new applications are accepted under those schemes after 30 September. Enterprise Singapore: EDGE transition FAQ

What does an EDGE grant AI project cover?

EDGE spans business development activities including automation, digitalisation and innovation. The EDGE FAQ states support of up to 50% for SMEs and up to 30% for non-SMEs. Up to 70% for SMEs and up to 50% for non-SMEs applies to internationalisation and sustainability activities. The annual aggregate cap is S$100,000, refreshed on 1 April. It operates by reimbursement after completion and full payment. These are ceilings and conditions, not a promised award for every applicant. The official FAQ also identifies a S$30,000 sub-limit within the annual cap for single-function digital solutions, integrated enterprise systems and pre-scoped equipment. The applicant must be a business registered in Singapore with at least 30% Singaporean and/or Singapore PR ownership; other activity requirements may apply. An application is not supported if work has started, or if any payment or deposit has been made to a supplier, before submission. Claims can be submitted only from 1 December 2026 for single-function digital solutions and pre-scoped equipment, and from 1 January 2027 for other activities. Whether a pre-approved vendor is required depends on the activity. Read the selected activity's details before comparing proposals. Enterprise Singapore: EDGE questions

Plan an EDGE grant AI project around a specific activity

Vague request More useful project definition Evidence to prepare
We want an AI chatbot Staff-approved answers to a defined set of customer enquiries Current questions, answer sources and escalation rules
We need AI automation Extract order information into a draft that a staff member checks Sample orders, required fields and existing error types
We want AI marketing A defined content or operating process with clear deliverables Channels, asset requirements, review steps and ownership
We need an AI system A bounded application integrated with named business systems Data map, user roles, test cases and support plan

These are scoping examples, not assertions that the activities qualify for EDGE. The actual support decision comes from the relevant programme requirements.

Five checks before accepting a vendor quotation

1. Confirm the activity, not just the programme name

Record the exact activity title and current requirements from the official directory. Ask what must be delivered and which expenses are excluded. A general brochure describing digitalisation cannot establish that a bespoke project is supported.

2. Separate software, implementation and ongoing work

A quotation may combine licences, configuration, integration, training, support and content production. Ask for each component to be identifiable. This helps the business assess value even if only part of the project is relevant to a support route.

3. Check the vendor rule for that activity

Do not infer approval from a company's marketing language, logo placement or familiarity with a scheme. Confirm any required listing against the exact supplier and solution. Where a listing is not required, evaluate the supplier's proposed work, responsibilities and deliverables.

4. Confirm the permitted start point

Ask the administrator when a contract, deposit, purchase order or implementation may begin. Keep the answer with the project record. Do not make an irreversible commitment based only on a salesperson's expectation that an application will succeed.

5. Plan for cash flow and operation after delivery

Reimbursement support is different from receiving project cash upfront. Establish who pays suppliers, how claims are prepared, and what the company will spend on subscriptions and maintenance after the funded work ends.

A worked scoping example: enquiry handling

Imagine a Singapore services company receiving enquiries through a website form and email. A first pilot might classify each enquiry, extract the requested service and draft a reply using approved information. Staff still approve the message. Missing information goes into a review queue rather than being guessed.

The acceptance test could require accurate service classification, complete routing to the right team, and a source attached to every factual answer. Measure the original handling time and the new handling time, including review and corrections. Set the target before the pilot; do not present an estimated saving as a measured result.

That brief is useful for a supplier conversation and for checking an activity's fit. It still does not establish funding eligibility.

An EDGE application is one route. Compare it with custom AI development support when the company must build and test a solution, and with the AI training support guide when the change depends on staff. Design the process in the AI workflow automation guide before treating a subscription as the project. A film or series is a different brief: use the Singapore film and microdrama funding guide, how to create a microdrama and how to make a microfilm.

Questions about EDGE and AI

Can an existing EDG or PSG project simply become an EDGE project?

Treat an existing award or submission according to its own terms. Ask the administrator how a genuinely new phase should be handled; do not duplicate the same expense across applications.

Does grant eligibility mean the system will work well?

No. Test the actual workflow, including messy inputs, missing information and escalation. The business needs a working process and accountable support regardless of funding.

Can AI Studio help define the work?

Contact us with the process you want to improve. We can discuss an AI automation scope, deliverables and evaluation plan. Confirm grant and vendor eligibility directly with Enterprise Singapore or the appointed programme channel.

What should be separated in an AI project quotation?

Identify software access, implementation, integrations, data preparation, training and ongoing operation as distinct items. This makes both delivery responsibilities and the activity-specific funding questions easier to assess; it does not establish that every item is supportable.

What evidence should we keep during an AI pilot?

Keep the approved scope, representative test inputs, review decisions, exception records and handover materials. Ask the programme administrator which evidence is required for the specific application and claim; a useful internal test log is not automatically an accepted grant claim.

Our process for assessing an EDGE grant AI project

  1. Define the current task, the operational problem and who owns it.
  2. Match each proposed activity to the official EDGE guidance; separate eligible and unconfirmed items.
  3. Prepare the quotation, baseline and acceptance criteria for the relevant agency or adviser to assess.

Which EDGE grant AI project should you start with?

Start with a workflow that has a named owner, usable records and a measurable operational problem. A vague wish to use AI is harder to assess than a bounded intake, document or inspection process.
